The first Joey opened in 1992 and, as word spread, plans for a second location were quickly in the works. Today there are 30 Joey restaurants across Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Seattle, California, Texas and now South Florida.  Joey's model isn’t to repeat formulas but create indoor and outdoor dining perfectly suited to the locale and its clientele. Each Joey restaurant is unique, but they all have plenty in common: great food, lively environments, exceptional dining experiences.

Instead of just one chef, Joey has a whole team of celebrated Executive Chefs at each location bringing you an experience you can’t get anywhere else. Joey believes in handcrafted, locally and globally inspired menu offerings.

About this project

For this project RetractableAwnings.com worked hand in hand with the architect and the Joey interior design team to formulate the best solution to cover a large space based on the need for excellent sun/glare/UV protection. The obvious choice was our proprietary Hamburg retractable shade sail using 3 overlapping units. The purpose of the overlapping of the units is to allow some of the rain from the middle larger unit to bounce both left and right on to the 2 smaller units and then for the rain to drain to the front. The fabric used for the project was Austrian Sattler Fire Master as local requirements required a fire retardant (FR) fabric.

The Hamburg retractable shade sail is unique and was the perfect product type for several reasons:

• • Can be installed in the rear on almost any facade or mounting surface, as no or very low tensile forces act on the mounting surface.

  • Ideal for larger areas as its maximum width using one piece of fabric and one motor is 22.96 feet (700 cm) wide with a maximum projection of 42.65 feet (1,300 cm) – the largest projection retractable shade sail in the world.

  • Optional manual or motorized height adjustment fully integrated on either or both front posts provides more shade and better water drainage.

  • The patented balancer system makes it almost impossible to destroy; the free-floating suspension prevents the fabric from spinning upwards.

  • Can be used almost all year round, except during periods of snow, frost and thaw, not the case in South Florida of course!

  • No comparable product on the market when it comes to the amount of depth coverage at over 42 feet!
